Weekly Roundup! #41

Hello everyone! This week I actually started a book that isn’t a manga! Shocking, I know. But it was mostly manga again – #sorrynotsorry. I also bought more manga, a comic book, and preordered the third volume of a comic book. Someone please take away my debit card before I spend all of my paycheck on books. Now, onto the books!

Sweat and Soap

One of my favorite manga that I read last week was Sweat and Soap volume 1 by Kintetsu Yamada! I thought this was going to be really weird considering it’s about a guy who works developing scents for a soap company and the woman that he smells (!?!?!?) for inspiration. I honestly thought it was going to be super cringey because it’s a dude SMELLING a woman and I was like… idk about this. But it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. As someone who has read a fair bit of adult manga (which this would definitely be), this is tame in comparison to a lot of those.

This story is about Yea, who is ashamed about her strong body odor. She works in the office of a soap company called Lilia Drop and loves her job. She uses the soap, lotions, and perfumes from the company on a daily basis because they are the only things that can help tame her strong smell. While she is in the lobby admiring the latest release from the company, the company’s lead product developer notices her smell and is instantly draw to her. Thus begins their relationship. You’ll have to read it to find out how things go though – no spoilers with this review.

Overall, I really enjoyed the first volume of this manga and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story progresses.

Something is Killing the Children

Next up was my favorite read of last week, hands down. Something is Killing the Children, volume 1 by James Tynion IV is a fantastic horror comic book series. It starts off when children go missing from Archer’s Peak (no, this is not a Stephen King book). Soon a young woman named Erica Slaughter comes to town to kill the monsters that have been taking the children. The only person that believes her story about the monsters is James, who witnessed his friends being ripped to shreds (like for real, this is pretty bloody). After that, James wants to help Erica find and kill the monsters. Which is pretty much what happens in the rest of the book.

I very much enjoyed this first volume. So much that I went out and bought the second volume almost immediately. I haven’t read it yet though – I will this upcoming week and you guys can definitely look forward to that next time!

Tokyo Boys & Girls

Next up we have Tokyo Boys & Girls volume 1 by Miki Aihara. Normally I like slice of life manga, but this one isn’t doing it for me. It was just ok and there are way better slice of life/school manga out there. I will probably read volume two just to see if it gets any better but I’m not chomping at the bit to read volume two.

The blurb from Goodreads:

Mimori Kosaka’s dreams comes true when she’s accepted to the Meidai Attached High School and gets to wear their super-fashionable uniform! She’s excited about having a fun freshman year, but things don’t turn out as effortlessly as she had hoped.

The school year starts off well when Mimori befriends the beautiful Nana, but things quickly turn sour for her when she is chosen to be the class representative. Through a series of unfortunate events, she finds herself the focus of attention of three boys and her teachers for all the wrong reasons! Mimori is reunited with Atsushi, a boy she knew in elementary school – and it turns out he despises her for allegedly bullying him in their grade school days. In fact, he plans to exact a little revenge!

Demon Prince of Momochi House

I’m so sad guys! Demon Prince of Momochi House volume 16 by Aya Shouoto is the last volume in the series! The story is over 😦 I’m going to miss Aoi and Himari and all of the other characters too. Just in case you’ve never heard of this series here is a quick synopsis from Goodreads: On her sixteenth birthday, orphan Himari Momochi inherits her ancestral estate that she’s never seen. Momochi House exists on the barrier between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is meant to act as guardian between the two worlds. But on the day she moves in, she finds three handsome squatters already living in the house, and one seems to have already taken over her role!

My Senpai is Annoying

The next couple of books that I read was My Senpai is Annoying volumes 1& 2 by Shiromanta. This is pretty much just a slice of life office manga with a short MC and a tall MC. That’s pretty much it. I did like it though. It didn’t rewrite the genre or anything like that but it was cute. Also, it’s all in color?? I haven’t seen a manga all in color before this so it was pretty neat!

The story is about Igarashi Futuba and her senpai, Takeda Harumi. Futuba finds him to be very annoying – everything he does annoys her. His laugh, his tallness, and most importantly, how he treats her. They work together in an office setting and spend a lot of time together. But that’s ok because Futuba doesn’t have any feelings for Takeda. Does she?

Tokyo Tarareba Girls

Next is Tokyo Tarareba Girls volumes 5 & 6 by Akiko Higashimura. This series can be sad sometimes. As someone who is also 30, I understand the pressure to find a good partner, get married, and start popping out babies ASAP. The what ifs that appear in these books are so real and things I think that a lot of people feel as they get older.

My favorite thing in these two volumes is that we get to learn some of Key’s history finally!! (SPOILERS START NOW) I can’t believe that he was married before!! I cannot wait to find out what happened with that: who was he married too? How long did it last? WHAT HAPPENED???

10 Dance

And Lastly we have 10 Dance volumes 4 & 5 by Satoh Inoue! I LOVE THIS SERIES. Who doesn’t want a slow burn romance about two ballroom dancers teaching each other their specialty dances??? A lot happens in these two volumes. We finally get to see them dance in a competition! I have no idea what it means to forsake your seed??? Am I going to google it and find out. No. These two volumes were great and there was so much that happened! I don’t want to give to many spoilers about what happens but it’s so good! I can’t wait for volume 6 to come out!

And that is it for this week! I hope you guys had a nice week and Happy Easter!
