I’ve recently started to read through the Prey series by John Sandford. I’m currently on book eight of thirty-six so I have a long way to go. I want to document my read through to see how these characters change throughout the series as well as to see how John Sandford’s writing changes along the years.

So far the first seven books have been very similar. They’re very 90s but I’m still enjoying them. I’m currently on book eight, Sudden Prey, which is a revenge plot. The main character, Lucas Davenport, kills a woman bank robber named Candy in the beginning of the book and her husband vows revenge.
Each of these books seem to have a problem-of-the-week set up, which is fine for now, but I’m hoping the further I get in to the series, the more the books will tie in with each other. After thirty-six books, I would hope that Sandford can connect them instead of just giving us a singular problem to solve in each one of them. I’m only on book eight and I’m starting to get bored. To put this into perspective, I’ve been reading the eighth book, Sudden Prey, since February of this year and I’m not even halfway through. I’m hoping to struggle through more of it over winter break, but if I’m still struggling after a year of trying to read this book, I might just be done with the series. Why continue if the book can’t hold my interest?

Have any of you read this series? Are you caught up or did you stop somewhere in the middle? I would love to know your thoughts! Drop me a comment and lets talk about Sandford and Davenport. Talk to you guys soon.
