Weekly Round-Up! #43

This wee was a little hectic. We’re even more short staffed at work now so when I come home it’s pretty much eat. shower, and then go to bed. But I did manage to read a few books. Here we go!

Timo the Adventurer

The first book that I read was Timo the Adventurer by Jonathan Garnier. This graphic novel follows Timo, a boy in a small village who has read every single book in the village. He decides that since he’s read all the books, it’s time for him to go off and have his own adventures. Along the way he meets a whole cast of characters, including what looks to be a big red panda that he names Broof. He saves Broof from being chained up in a temple. As soon as he frees Broof though, things start to chase them. Along the way we learn bits and pieces of why Broof was chained up and we get the big reveal towards the end of the book – no spoilers from me today though!

I thought that this graphic novel was really adorable. I loved the ending. I think it talked about something that not a lot of graphic novels for younger kids deal with – forgiving yourself. The art style was really nice too. Very clean and cute, I really enjoyed it.

Descendants of Darkness vol. 1

The next book that I read was Descendants of Darkness vol. 1 by Yoko Matsushita. This manga is about Asato Tsuzuki, a Shinigami or Guardian of Death in the Ministry of Hades. His job is to guide the dead to the afterlife but things seem to keep getting in the way. Throughout the book he keeps running into problems while trying to guide his charges to the afterlife.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this manga strictly because of the art style. It’s older and I’m not a fan. However, the story was so compelling and interesting that I barely noticed the art style. I can’t wait to continue reading this series!

That’s it for this week guys! I didn’t get to read as much as I normally do and I’m going on a week vacation starting today so who knows how much reading I’ll get done then either. I hope you all had a great week and I’ll see you next time!
