Advanced Reader Copies

How do you guys feel about ARCs? I get a few of them every month and I always struggle to read the amount that I get. I try and limit myself to two a month which is always a mission! I want to get all the books and horde them all in my little at home library. It’s also a struggle because you never know if you’ll get chosen to receive the book! I request about ten books and I always hope that I don’t get chosen for all ten but then I also want all ten of them as well! But I know I can never read all ten before their publishing dates. Do you see my dilemma? Anyway back to the books! I recently received two ARCs, one from Chronicle Books and one from Turner Publishing. I generally read the books by which one comes out first so that I can read the book and publish a review (hopefully) before the pub date. The ARC that I’m reading now (and almost done with! Review soon!) is called Art Boss by Kayla Cagan. I’ve got about a third of the book left. Honestly, I was really drawn in by the cover of this book. It’s gorgeous. My picture does not do it justice!

I didn’t realize when I requested this book that it came directly after the author’s other book Piper Perish. I know that now but honestly it really didn’t matter that much. This book easily stands by itself. The book is about Piper Perish trying to make it as an artist in New York and all the adventures she has surrounding that. The book is written in a journal style from the perspective of the MC, Piper. There are no chapters per se. The journal entries and grouped by months. Which I actually really like. It gave me more of a sense of the time Piper was spending in New York doing her various odd jobs. I also liked that she didn’t write in her journal every day. So many journal style books get bogged down in writing every day and keeping track of the mundane-ness of everyday life. I live too, I don’t need to know what the MC is doing every second of every day. I’m really excited to finish this one up and move onto my next ARC which is called Mammoth by Jill Baguchinsky.

This book is about the MC Natalie who is a paleontology geek who gets an internship at an Ice Age dig site near Austin, Texas. As a fellow lover of dinosaurs, I cannot wait to start this book! Jurrasic Park is my all time favorite movie and I love anything to do with dinosaurs so I was so excited when this ARC showed up in my mailbox a few days ago! I will keep you all updated as I get started on this one. It will be my next read once I’m finished with Art Boss. Until next time book friends!
