April Round-Up!

Happy May everyone! It already feels like summer down here 😦 it was in the 80s last week but felt like the 90s. Sometimes I really hate living in Florida, I’m not made for the heat! But anyway, I read a pretty good amount of books in April and I finished up the two classes that I was taking! Now I have a two-week break before my next class starts. I’m taking Intro to Ethics. I’m trying to get all my gen eds out of the way before I start tackling some of the harder classes. Now onto the books!

The first book that I want to talk about is Dinosaur Sanctuary volume 1 by Itaru Kinoshita. This was one of my favorite books that I read last month! In this we follow Suma Suzume, a fledgling dinokeeper as she starts her new job at Enoshima Dinoland. Dinoland had fallen on hard times and isn’t very popular anymore. Can Suma and her associates come up with ways to bring in more people to save the park? You’ll have to read this and find out!

This was so cute! I love love loved the artwork! The drawings of the dinosaurs are amazing! The plot of this is pretty basic but this is also only the first volume. I’m hoping that in the next few volumes we’ll get some more history on when and where the dinosaurs were discovered. I’m really curious about that aspect of the story. I can’t wait for the next volume!

I had to read The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood for my English Comp. 2 class. I’ve read it before but it’s been about ten years since I read it and I forgot how frustrating it is. Not to read though, it’s a very well-written book. It’s frustrating because as a woman, I can see Gilead being a thing that could easily happen right now. First, it’ll be abortion rights and then we won’t be able to have jobs or our own money and then we’ll be right where they were when Gilead was founded.

(Also I just started reading the second book, The Testaments. I’ll update you guys once I finish if it’s as good as the first one!)

The next book I read was Moon Blooded Breeding Clinic by C.M. Nascosta! In this we follow Moriah, a recent divorcee, who is really desperate to have a child. Enter the Moon Blooded Breeding Clinic! Moriah looks through the catalog of handsome werewolves and ends up picking one out. Little does she know that the man that she picks, Lowell Hemming, is something of a well known entity in the neighboring town.

All Lowell Hemming wants to do is leave his suffocating town and family behind and get back on the road. A photographer who travels the globe, Lowell ends up back in his hometown, where everyone knows his name, because of the Covid virus. He eventually gets bored and horny and ends up signing up to be a donor for the Moon Blooded Breeding Clinic. He wasn’t counting on the cute redhead that picks him from the catalog. But he also wasn’t counting on catching feelings either.

This was adorable and I really enjoyed the plot. ALTHOUGH. There were a few instances of the miscommunication trope in here, which I hate. Just talk to each other!! It’s not rocket science! But other than that, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were great, even though Lowell was really freaking childish at times, I understand that that’s what the author was trying to do with him so that he could grow throughout the book (he was still annoying at times). If you’re looking for a happy ending and some nice ~spicy~ scenes then check out this book (and the whole series!).

Next up we have Silver Spoon volume 1 by Hiromu Arakawa. This super cute manga is about Yuugo Hachiken, who enrolls at Oezo Agricultural High School; even though he doesn’t really have an interest in farming or animals. He seems to be escaping from something, although in this first volume, we don’t find out what exactly he is running from. I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait to read more volumes! I also really love the artwork. The animals are so cute!!

The next manga that I read was Laid-back Camp volume 1 by Afro. In this we follow Rin and Nadeshiko as they go camping and take in the gorgeous scenery. Not gonna lie, I’ve never seen a manga about camping. And I’m loving this one! The artwork is gorgeous! I’ve done a ton of camping (yes, I was a Girl Scout) and I really am enjoying reading about these girls as they camp and bond over bonfires, food, and the beautiful scenery. If you’re looking for a sweet, calming manga then this is the right one for you!

Next up we have The Gargoyle’s Captive by Katee Robert! I’m really on a monster romance kick these days and this one was my third (I think) by Katee Robert. I’m really loving how she writes characters, especially the women, in these books. This one was really fun! I love our grumpy gargoyle, Bram, and our spitfire leading lady, Grace. They are both so damaged and are great for each other – if they would stop trying to kill each other for five minutes. This was such a fun book with some really somber moments. There’s a lot of grief in this book as both characters deal with losing family members. If you’re looking for a fun adventure book with some very interesting ~spicy~ scenes then check this one out!

Last but certainly not least we have Catch These Hands volume 1 by Murata! In this we follow Takebe, a former delinquent who runs into her high-school rival, Soramori. They end up fighting for the first time in years, and Takebe loses! She has no choice but to give Soramori what she wants. Which is to start dating!

This was a really cute manga that I was not expecting to like as much as I did. I really enjoy all of the flashbacks to when the girls were in school. I’m curious to see where this goes since forced dating isn’t usually my thing. But these characters are so great that I’m willing to give it a try.

That’s all for this month! Sorry this post is like a month late. Life got to lifeing and a bunch of stuff happened. I also just got over having a wonderful stomach bug so that was fun. I’ll see you guys next month!
