March Round-Up!

March is over! I read so much this month because we had Spring Break! So I pretty much only read that week and did nothing else (except laundry and work). So I ended up reading 55 books in March. Some of them were fantastic and some were so bad they were hilarious. I also read some very questionable free books on Kindle Unlimited and when I tell you they were insane I mean they were absolutely unhinged. I’ll tell you about them but you can’t judge me for reading them! I was curious! With that being said, onto the books!

These books were horrible! They were all free on Kindle Unlimited and my coworkers and I were talking about starting a Bad Book Book Club and I remembered seeing these books on TikTok awhile back. Theyre short, around 60ish pages per book so very quick reads. There’s not really any plot to these but I’ll give you a light rundown anyway. In book one the Corona Virus somehow comes to life, sexy times happen. In book two the Cure AND the Corona Virus are alive and in a humanoid shape, sexy times happen. Book three a Variant of the Corona Virus is somehow alive and a human woman and sexy times happen. Now the weirdest book of the bunch was the praying mantis one, Mating with the Mantis (I shudder tying those words, truly.). A lady scientist gets all hot and bothered by praying mantis’s for some reason and having her partners wear a praying mantis mask – yes they exist, I looked – isn’t doing it anymore. So she finds a laser (I think? I honestly can’t remember all of the plot) at the lab that she works in that she thinks will make a praying mantis larger but it ends up making her into a praying mantis instead. She then gets it on with a praying mantis and then eats his head. At the end someone sees her on the floor of the lab and puts her in the tank with all the other male praying mantis. That’s it. That’s the plot. It was horrible and nowhere near any kind of sexiness. It mostly just grossed me out. I’m not even linking to these, you do NOT need to read them. Read something else, literally anything else. Read a cereal box, it will be way better.

So these next two books were also on Kindle Unlimited and are also I think classified as erotica? Or maybe romance? I’m not really sure what the distinction is honestly. But anyway, they were a step above the Covid books but not by much. The first one with the Lich was better than the second one with the Orc. Although they did have some cute moments in each book, it was mostly just sex. The orc one started on page 2! Like they LITERALLY JUST MET and they were already going at it. I think that’s one of the reasons I liked the Lich one better, it seemed to have more build up which led to a better payoff in the end. So the Lich one was cute and the Orc one was just blah.

Ok these are the last two Kindle Unlimited books that I read last month. Erotic Excavations was a dinosaur shifter threesome book with two dino shifters and one lady named Diana, who works at the permitting office. She goes to the quaint town of Fossil Falls to investigate a museum that is run by Professor Tybalt. Listen, there’s not much plot involved in this but there is a T-rex shifter that fake hunts his human woman and his sub dino shifter Casey and leads them to a picnic where he asks both of them to be his partners. It was adorable. The sexy times were interesting to say the least.

Now Sweet Berries by C.M. Nascosta was ADORABLE and I loved it. In this we follow our main character Grace who works at a farm where her best friend is a dryad and her boss is a centaur. The setting of this book series is the BEST! This is technically the second book in the series but they can all be read independently even though they take place in the same town. I have read the first one and I just finished the third book (review next month!). I love this setting, the characters are so cute together, there’s literally nothing about this series that I don’t love. So Grace is working at the farm and ends up meeting a cute Mothman (YES A MOTHMAN) named Merrick and they end up fooling around and dating. The way that the author kept describing Merrick’s soft, velvety skin really made me want to pet him. This is one of my favorite writer’s to go to when I want a cute romance with a guaranteed happy ending. And hey, there’s also some monsters too.

Of course there has to be some kind of horror book in here. This time we’ve got PTSD Radio volumes 1 & 2 by Masaaki Nakayama. This was an over 300 page compilation of this acclaimed horror series. I really enjoyed this and the artwork was fantastic! Super creepy and gross.

Lastly, we have Magical Boy volume 1 by The Kao. Here’s the blurb from Goodreads: “Although he was assigned female at birth, Max is your average trans man trying to get through high school as himself. But on top of classes, crushes, and coming out, Max’s life is turned upside down when his mom reveals an eons old family secret: he’s descended from a long line of Magical Girls tasked with defending humanity from a dark, ancient evil! With a sassy feline sidekick and loyal gang of friends by his side, can Max take on his destiny, save the world, and become the next Magical Boy? A hilarious and heartfelt riff on the magical girl genre made popular by teen manga series, Magical Boy is a one-of-a-kind fantasy series that comic readers of all ages will love.”

This was such a great first volume! I really loved how the magical girl outfit changed each time that Max transforms and slowly starts to be something that he’s more comfortable with wearing. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!

And that is all for this month! I hope you enjoyed hearing about some of the more ~ interesting ~ books that I read this month. I’m going to try and read a few Kindle Unlimited books each month and see how horrible they can get. I’ll update you guys every month on my findings. I think there might be a few gems in the plethora of horrible books on there. Fingers crossed!
