Reading Challenges Update

Hi everyone! This is my first update on the reading challenges that I’m doing this year and what I’m reading for some of them. Are you doing any reading challenges? I always love to collect more, so if you’re doing one, leave a comment so I can check it out!

I’m doing four reading challenges: the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge, the Popsugar Reading Challenge, the Reading Glasses Podcast Reading Challenge, and HRCYED (which I’ve already made a few posts about because it starts in the middle of the year).

I’ve gotten most of the books picked out for the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge prompts, and I’ve already read one. Prompt 13, read a nonfiction comic. For that, I read an advanced reader copy of a book called Memories of Giselle by Katia Vecchio (out on July 14th of this year). This book deals with childhood sexual assault, so be careful if you read it. It was very well done, but also incredibly sad. The next book I’m tackling for this challenge is prompt 23, read a book by an African author. I love Nnedi Okorafor (who is Nigerian-American), and I just got one of her earlier books at a used bookstore over Christmas, called Lagoon. After that, I think I’ll read prompt 15, read a book by a librarian. For that one, I own the book That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America by Amanda Jones, which is a non-fiction book about how she fought back against book banning in her community.

The Popsugar Reading Challenge has 40 regular prompts and 10 advanced prompts. I’m not sure if I’ll get through this entire challenge since it’s so huge, but I’m going to try. The first prompt that I want to tackle is number 7, a book about a granny hobby. I’m going to read Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer, which is another book that I got during the Christmas break.

For the Reading Glasses podcast’s challenge, I’m going to start with the prompt, a currently banned book by an author who is still alive. For this, I’m reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I was able to get this book through my library, and I’m reading the e-book on Libby. I haven’t gotten too far into it, but I like it so far.

Those are all the books that I’m reading right now for all of these book challenges! Hopefully I can get through some of them this week, especially because I’m off Monday for MLK Jr. Day, so I can read all day!! Thank god. I actually just finished Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella and Gild by Raven Kennedy – two wildly different books. They were both so great, though. I’ll give you guys a proper review next week sometime. Oh, I also finished re-reading Bride by Ali Hazelwood, and I’m now reading Mate. Ok, now I’m going to go away and read so I can update you guys later in the week! Have a great rest of your weekend!
