I recently came across a TikTok of someone talking about a book challenge called The Hardest Book Challenge You’ll Ever Do. And, as someone who reads a ton and works at a library, I couldn’t pass up the chance to take a look. And I was immediately like, I have to do this. So, I’m doing it. It starts July 7th and goes until June of next year, so luckily, I didn’t miss much time. Here’s the website if you want to check out the rules and all the reading prompts. It’s a little complicated, but I’m game to try.
I’m jumping around a little bit (you don’t have to do them any particular order), so I’m starting with the By the 100s prompt because I have read a 700+ page books since this challenge started (thank god), so I was very excited to see that prompt (and that I’ve completed it). The book I read for that one was The Butcher’s Masquerade by Matt Dinniman. This is book number 5 in the Dungeon Crawler Carl, and it is 732 pages long. And the 6th book which I am currently reading, is over 600 pages so that prompt will be done too, yay.

Now, unfortunately for me, the over 300 plus books that I’ve already read this year don’t count (except for books I’ve read since the challenge started on July 7th). Which is fine because everyone just started this challenge; it’s not like it started in January, and I’m coming in late. I personally can’t wait to get to some of these prompts. I’m most excited about reading all of the books for the Spooky Creatures prompt. I just found a great-sounding mermaid book on KU, AND it has the word air in the title, which counts for one of the books for the Avatar prompt.

I’m also really looking forward to the Bigger Queer-phabet books. I already read a lot of LGBTQIA+ books, but there are definitely a few that queer identities that I could read more about. And there’s a prompt to do one of the prompts from HRCYED 1, so I picked the Read a Book from Your Birth Year That was a Top 10 Best Seller to do. Turns out one of the top bestsellers from 1990 is The Stand by Stephen King, which is one of the few of his I haven’t read, so I’m diving into that one.

Alright, that’s my update for now! I’m sure there will be plenty of others because this is going to be a long challenge. I’m going to try and power through a bunch of books in the next two weeks because my fall classes start up on August 13th. So hopefully I can get through a few prompts! Happy reading everyone!
