I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions. I honestly think that picking an arbitrary time to start something new just means it’s not going to stick. That being said, here are a few things that I started doing last year that I want to continue for my 2024 reading.
~ Read more translated books. This is something that I started doing in the summer last year to try and broaden my reading horizons. I want to keep this up this year and right now I’m reading two translated books, Super Extra Grande by Yoss and translated by David Frye and The Woman in the Purple Skirt by Natsuko Imamura and translated by Lucy North. One other one that I want to read this year is Diary of a Void by Emi Yagi, translated by David Boyd and Lucy North.
~ Read more nonfiction. This is a hard one for me. Unless I am super interested in a subject it’s really hard for me to read a nonfiction book. I get bored really quickly. I’m looking for suggestions if there’s a non fiction book that you loved! So far this year I’ve read Queer Power: Icons, Activists, and Game Changers by Dom&Ink and Concrete Kids by Amyra Leon. I’m currently reading Welcome to Consent by Yumi Stynes & Dr. Melissa Kang and The Stonewall Riots: Coming Out in the Streets by Gayle E. Pitman.
~ Read more books by POC (People of Color). This is something that I’ve been working on for the last few years but I really want to put a lot of effort towards this year. I have a long list of authors and books that I’m going to try and read soon. Here are a few of them: Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson, The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon, Waiting to Exhale by Terry McMillan, Black Liturgies: Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Staying Human by various authors, The Colliding Worlds of Mina Lee by Ellen Oh, A Witches Guide to Burning by Aminder Dhaliwal, and Thunder Song: Essays by Sasha taqwšəblu LaPointe. These are just some of the books that I want to read, I have a huge list on Goodreads that I would like to get through. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! I’m always looking for more books to add to my ever growing TBR lists.
That is it for my reading resolutions! I’m also doing the Read Harder challenge from Book Riot which I will give an update about it a different post. See you guys next time!
